Coach Ralph Potter

Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?

A. We have a really small but talented, high-character senior class that I hope will provide great leadership for us.

Q. What will be the keys to your success?

A.  As always, great senior leadership with kids who hold each other accountable and hold the standard of discipline on the team. Young guys must learn very quickly. We expect to improve as the season progresses and be competitive by the end of the year.

McCallie.StatsQ. Who will be your key leaders on the team?

A. Jay Gibson (Sr., RB/DL), Rico Dozier (Sr., WR/DB), Xavier Brooks (Sr., RB/DB), Hakim McMorris (Sr., WR/DB), River Henry (Sr., OL/DL), Jorden Starling (Sr., TE/DL), Adams Robinson (Sr., QB/DB), Stone Roebuck (Jr., RB/DB), and Melvin Tobar (Jr., RB/DB).

Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?

A. The combination of the senior class with the young talent that we have are going to be a fun bunch to work with.

Q. What will keep you up at night?

A. The quality of our opponents. The teams in our league are very good. In order to win our league, we’ll have to be one of the top 25 teams in the country.

Q. What can you build on from last year?

A.  Last year, we were very close to breaking through and becoming a top-level team. Our returning players want to get back there, and the young guys are hungry.

Q. Any lessons learned from last year?

A.  I’m always learning lessons. In our league, you just have to be really good at the end, playing your best games in October and November.

Q. Will we see anything different this year?

A.  We always adapt based on personnel, but the system won’t really change much.

Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?

A.  We’ve probably had faster teams in the past, but we’re adequate. Our seniors will have to perform. We’ll rely on them early in the season as the younger guys learn more.

Coach’s View
Our non-conference games will be a test, and six league games are always a challenge. We’ll have to focus on game-by-game improvement. Players must buy into the fact that they’ll have to improve each week. If they can see that, we’ll be in good shape in terms of where we are at the end of the season.
