Coach Jay Poag
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. Excited to take the next step in building a program that can compete for championships.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Our senior class led by Zach Gentry (Sr., WR), Matthew Neff (Sr., QB), Duane Jones (Sr., DE), Syd Reece (Sr., LB), and Adrian Cruz
(Sr., OL/DL).
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. We’ve had an excellent off-season of strength and speed training, and our roster keeps growing in number – which should help our depth.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. Like most teams, we can’t afford injuries.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. We learned how to compete last year. We hope to take the next step with this squad and continue to improve. We return nine starters on offense and 10 starters on defense. We’ve played a ton of 9th/10th graders the past two years, and we now have a good bit of game experience.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. We learned to compete to the final whistle with two very exciting “walk off” wins. One was a last-second goal line stand, and the other was a double-overtime thriller winning on a field goal on the final play.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. We’ll continue to operate out of the spread on offense and the 3-5 on defense.
Coach’s View
We are excited to see what the 2018 season brings for our team. We have a lot of experience with 19 starters returning. Our goal is to come together and continue to improve each week as we take the next step in building a quality program that can consistently compete for championships.
