Coach Sean Gray
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. Very tall, very smart, and high character.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. Rebuild the defense, stay healthy.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Luke Johns (Sr., DE), Porter Johnson (Sr., QB), and Landon Eaton (Sr., RB).
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. Overall, we have very coachable kids. We’ve got a team that’s going to stay focused for the entire season. We’ll also have a solid passing attack.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. Worrying about staying healthy. We had devastating injuries to key players last year, and it was really hard on us.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. In the second half of the season, we threw the ball extremely well. We hope to build on that. We’re also returning our quarterback and really good receivers as well.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. It’s very hard for kids to play both ways (offense and defense) in higher classifications.
Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A. Our receivers are going to have great speed. We’re fast in the wideout positions. On defense, Luke Johns is really fast. Our special teams’ returners have great speed.
Coach’s View
I think we’re going to come out of the gate fast like we have in years past. Character and leadership of the team will allow us to finish this season strong. If we stay healthy, we have a great chance to make the postseason. If we stay healthy, we’ll be in the mix.
