Coach Damon Floyd
Q: How would you characterize this year’s team?
A: Our team is experienced this year, and we’re excited to have 15 returning starters from last season on both offense and defense.
Q: What will be the keys to your success?
A: Obviously we want to stay as healthy as possible and injury-free. The team has had a great offseason, so carrying that mentality and work ethic into the season will really benefit us.
Q: Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A: Cole Copeland (Sr., QB), Cason Still (Sr., S), and Jake Tolleson (Sr., NT).
Q: What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A: We’ve retained a lot of experienced players, and the difference between finishing in second and fourth place last season was a total of only five points. We’re excited to develop that success further.
Q: What can you build on from last year?
A: We were able to finish in the top half of our region last year and hosted the first-round playoff game. We’re very close to doing even greater things.
Q: Any lessons learned from last year?
A: We learned a lot about our team and fought hard together every week. Effort was never an issue with our players, and we expect the same this season.
Q: How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A: Slot receiver Lameric Tucker (Jr., WR) is a speedster. Our two safeties, Jake Presley (Jr., S) and Cason Still (Sr., S), can really move as well.
We play in one of the toughest regions in the state. Every single week is a battle for us, and we have to be prepared for physical, grinding games every Friday. Each week we play some great competition, and I think it helps us improve a tremendous amount each week. Hopefully that will help our postseason play.
