Q & A With Coach Scott Chandler

tyner academy football coach

Q: How would you characterize this year’s team?

A: We have a lot of players coming back, so we will be experienced on both sides of the ball.

Q: What will be the keys to your success?

A: Great senior leadership, staying injury-free, and having some good luck.

Q: Who will be your key leaders on the team?

A: Joshua Jackson (QB), Jersey Chubb (OB/LB), Jonah Chapman (OL/DL), Zashun Hubbard (WR/DB), and Josiah Bridgeman (WR/LB).

Q: What are your biggest reasons for optimism?

A: We went 7-4 last year without spring practice, without lifting weights, and running a new offense and defense. This year, we had spring practice, we have been in a weight program since Thanksgiving, and we are in our second year running our system.

Q: What will keep you up at night?

A: Wondering if I am doing what God wants me to do in leading these players to become men and influencing their lives for the kingdom.

Q: What can you build on from last year?

A: In the four games we lost, hopefully we learned what it takes to win those big games. Also, having several leaders who experienced a playoff run to the final four with our basketball team will greatly benefit us.

Q: Will we see anything different this year?

A: Better execution hopefully, which comes with spring practice and another summer of being in the same offense and defense.

Coach’s View

We play in an extremely tough region, not to mention we play some talented non-region teams, plus we play Alcoa. We have to take it one game at a time and get better every week.
