Coach Phil Massey
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. More focused after last season’s results. They have worked hard to make sure last season does not repeat itself.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. Overall, remain healthy. Quality team depth is an issue.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Christian Harris (Sr., DL), Lorenzo White (Sr., QB), Moose Vaughn (Sr., WR/DB), Noah Martin (Jr., RB/LB), Cooper Lewis (Sr., LB), Daniel Oliver (Jr., OL), Patton Ford (Sr., WR/DB), Gabriel Stulce (Jr., WR/DB), Seth Johnson (Jr., OL/DL), and Mekos Baker (Jr., WR/DB).
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. Our leadership and a solid group of young men who want to succeed.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. The quality of our opponents and the fear of injuries.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. Our finish. After a disappointing league finish, we won a playoff game on the road and came within inches of advancing to state semifinals.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. A player who makes a team great is more valuable than a great player.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. Nothing changes on offense or defense schemes. On special teams, we must replace all kickers and a snapper that we lost to graduation.
Coach’s View
After our first three games, we’ll know a lot about our team. We open with three teams who all played in the state championship last year. It’s important for us to get off to a good start to help build our confidence before heading into a very tough region schedule.
