Coach Mark Mariakis
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. We have a lot of experience back from last year, but we also have some BIG holes to fill.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. We will need to find depth on the offensive/defensive lines and stay healthy at skill positions.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Our seniors will be asked to step up and lead – most of them have been playing for four years.
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. We have a lot of experience in our junior and senior classes; it’s hard to replace experience and speed.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. Working to find depth so our kids don’t have to go both ways all year.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. With back-to-back playoff years, we need to take the next step and make the second round.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. Our guys have to expect to win, not just hope to win, in big games.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. All three phases of the game will have new coordinators. There will be changes.
Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A. Our team speed might be at our highest since being here due to our weight room progress and players returning from injuries.
Coach’s View
Our schedule is tough each week, both district and non-district games. There are some teams that we have not had much success with over the past few years, so we will have to change our mindset against them if we are going to compete at that level. Our young men have to prepare to win, not just hope to win in those games!
