Coach Mark Mariakis
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. Lots of experience back on offense. We graduated several players on defense.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. Developing player leadership with a ‘win the moment’ attitude.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. We have created a leadership team, but we need everyone to lead!
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. We return most of our offensive starters.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. Replacing some of our defensive production.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. The confidence of making the playoffs our first year in Division II.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. You have to be able to stop folks. You can’t outscore most teams.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. Most of our schemes will be similar to last year.
Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A. Our team speed is getting better due to our weight-training program, and many
of our players run track.
Coach’s View
Our region schedule is tough moving into Division II, but we have added challenges with our non-region schedule as well. Last year, we were very proud of our players and how they competed in every game, no matter what the scoreboard read. Our players have bought into our cultural truth that their value doesn’t come from the outcome of a ballgame, but from their relationship with Christ!
