Coach Jay Poag
Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. Experienced and ready to compete for championships.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. Staying healthy and hungry to build on last year’s success.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Ethan Smith (RB/LB), Evan Lester (WR/DB), Gage Leonard (RB/LB), Joe Dixon (K/P), Solomon Locke (RB/DB), Mitchell Herndon (OL/LB), and Ben Williamson (OL/LB).
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. A great off-season and high expectations with 18 starters returning off of the best season in school history.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. The tough schedule including three huge region matchups (all on the road).
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. We learned how to win last year. This coming year, we’ll need to learn how to expect to win. We need to stay hungry to get back to the playoffs.
Q. Any lessons learned from last year?
A. We have to be ready to play every Friday night. Every play matters.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. No – still spread offense. 3-5-3 defense. Kicker returns.
Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A. Much better than it has ever been. We have five players that run 4.5 in the 40-yard dash.
Coach’s View
We play a very tough schedule as usual. We need to continue to play great defense and special teams and limit turnovers on offense. Staying healthy is always critical for us as well, being one of the smallest schools in the state.
