Q & A With Coach Josh Robinson

northwest whitfield football coach 2022

Q: How would you characterize this year’s team?

A: We have nine strong returning starters, of which many have been starting for our football team since they were sophomores. We will look directly to them for the leadership needed for us to obtain our goals for this upcoming season.

Q: What will be the keys to your success?

A: The main key will be the improvement of our returning players. However, ultimately the true success of our team will hinge on how well the new starters play.

Q: Who will be your key leaders on the team?

A: Dominique Smith (RB/DB), Jax Brooker (RB/LB), Conner Cummings (LB), Ike Ralston (LB), Owen Brooker (QB/DB), Hudson Gray (WR/DB), Braxton Floyd (WR/DB), Jase Talley (WR/LB), Jaxon Greeson (OL/DL), and Gyan Gomez (OL/DL).

Q: What are your biggest reasons for optimism?

A: I believe we have strong senior leadership, experience in key positions, and good overall team speed.

Q: What will keep you up at night?

A: Early season position battles, development of new players, and team chemistry is always important.

Q: Will we see anything different this year?

A: Offensively, we will utilize an H-Back more. Defensively, we are more willing with an experienced secondary to vary the coverages we show.

Q: How would you characterize our team’s speed?

A: Our team speed is in good shape. Our defense runs well at all 11 positions. With our wide receivers, we have good, deep threats that must be respected.

Coach’s View

Our schedule is challenging. We must learn lessons while winning football games in non-region play. We have four teams on our non-region schedule coming off playoff appearances. We need to use this strong schedule to help catapult us into a tough region that only got more challenging with the addition of a talented Sonoraville team and a local rival in Southeast. We must have great team chemistry and stay healthy to have a productive season.
