Coach Josh Robinson
How would you characterize this year’s team?
Dedicated, but with a chip on their shoulder after finishing second. This team wants to earn both a home playoff game and the region championship.
What will be the keys to your success?
Staying healthy and developing new talent on defense.
Who will be your key leaders on the team?
Chase Blackwell (Sr., LB), Jay Jones (Sr., WR/DB), Seth Godfrey (Jr., WR/DB), Will Blanchard (Sr., WR/QB), Garrett Ford (Sr., OL/DL), Luke Shiflett (Jr., QB), Dominique Sistrunk (So., RB/LB), and Sebastian Orozco (Jr., RB/DB).
What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
Offensive experience throughout the starting lineup and backups, speed in skill positions, and the desire and effort we’ve seen from our new defensive players.
What will keep you up at night?
Worrying about overall health and the development of the defensive talent.
What can you build on from last year?
We overcame a slew of injuries and early adversity to host our first home playoff game in 10+ years, and that has the team excited about their prospects again this year.
How would you characterize your team’s speed?
This year’s skill positions and defensive backs are better and faster than the typical team at Northwest Whitfield. The defensive line is right where it left off. We’ll have new faces, but we should get the same results.
We have a very tough schedule. All of our non-region teams made the playoffs last year except for South Atlanta, which may be the most athletic team on our schedule. This year will be tough as we have solid, competitive players and good coaching in our region.
