Q. How would you characterize this year’s team?
A. Game experienced, but scheme inexperienced. I think they are a pretty tough, hard-nosed group.
Q. What will be the keys to your success?
A. I always believe turnover margin plays a huge role in high school football.
Q. Who will be your key leaders on the team?
A. Adrin Jackson (Sr., RB/LB), Spencer Ables (Sr., WR/DB), Clayton Casey (Sr., WR/DB), and Brett Hicks (Sr., FB/DL).
Q. What are your biggest reasons for optimism?
A. A senior-laden team.
Q. What will keep you up at night?
A. Our schedule.
Q. What can you build on from last year?
A. They won some close games and have a lot of experience.
Q. Will we see anything different this year?
A. I’m a wing-t offense, and a 3-4 defense. As a first-year head coach, I’m sure it’ll be different.
Q. How would you characterize your team’s speed?
A. I think our LBs and some of our defensive line will run well. We don’t have speed demons in the skill positions, but we’re adequate.
I like the toughness and grit this team has shown and their willingness to work. We were sloppy on offense in the spring, but we only had eight days of practice to implement a new system. This summer attendance is critical to getting better at what we do. Defensively, I like the way we get to the ball – we have to learn to create turnovers and be great tacklers.
